SEND a Message was created after hearing so many stories of poor treatment
against those with special educational needs, unseen disabilities or differences.
Abandoned, silenced and invisible, left neglected.
Reports of constant anxiety, self harm, plummeting self worth, in unsuitable environments, feeling overwhelmed and unsafe. Damaged by assessment delays, disproportionately sanctioned, regularly misunderstood in school & out, gaslit by GP's, dismissed by CAMHS, avoided by local authorities and often misdiagnosed.
Documented year on year, unlawful failures are common, discriminatory practices are accepted as normal. Proclaimed as isolated incidents, but these reports reveal a widespread pattern: a culture of discrimination.
Why it Matters
All too often, SEND children and neurodivergent adults are treated as problems to be fixed, not valued or celebrated for being themselves.
Support is an afterthought, not enough and commonly only when things go wrong. Protections promised in law rarely match lived experience.
